How To Maintain & Organize A Storage Locker

A storage space needs to be maintained and organized in order to make sure the contents of the locker do not get dirty or damaged. Here are some tips that you can employ to help keep your storage locker organized and the area maintained.

Keep A Log Of Contents

One of the most common problems with storage lockers is that it is hard to find something inside the unit when you need it. Keeping a log of the contents of the storage locker attached to the inside of the locker, located just beside the entrance way, will help you quickly locate the contents when you need to. When storing the items make sure that you correctly label each and every box with a white label sticker that indicates the contents inside the box with the corresponding log of the item.

Store Items Inside Bins & On Skids

Another problem with storage lockers is that the contents can get damaged when subjected to the elements. When packaging the contents for storage unit make sure to package them inside rubber bins that will protect them from the cold and any water that might find its way inside the unit. When everything is inside of bins, lay skids down on the floor and then place the bins on top of the skids. The skids will keep the bins off the ground and protected from a possible flood of water that might may its way into the unit when the winter snow melts.

Keep A Broom & Flashlight Just Inside The Door

Over time dirt and debris will collect around the sliding door that opens the unit. Keep a broom located just inside the door along the wall that will enable you to brush away the leaves and dirt that collects around the entrance way, each and every time you access the unit. Beside the broom, you should always store a flashlight that will give you a light source that you can use in nighttime to give you proper visibility. Flashlights will also come in handy if you ever need to find something in a unit that has little visibility because it is very large.

Organizing your storage locker is the best way to keep things neat and tidy. If you have questions about the size of your storage locker or getting a climate controlled unit to protect the content from extreme cold, you can call your local storage unit vendor, like Acorn Self Service Storage.
